About Positive Reinforcement
Positive reinforcement training with horses is a training method rooted in both kindness and science. At its heart, R+ is based on learning theory: behaviors that are followed by something the horse enjoys are more likely to be repeated. Instead of relying on pressure or correction, this approach uses clear communication and positive outcomes to guide learning. Many people choose positive reinforcement because it builds trust, confidence, and a sense of safety, helping horses feel relaxed and eager to engage. Training becomes a shared conversation rather than a demand, strengthening the bond between horse and human. Over time, R+ supports emotional well-being and creates a willing, curious partner who enjoys learning and feels good about being part of the process.

About Sarita
Throughout my over 50 years of riding, I have continually sought better and more humane ways to work with horses. My introduction to positive reinforcement horse training began when a fellow boarder loaned me You Can Train Your Horse to Do Anything by Shawna Karrasch. In her book, Shawna shares training methods she developed while working with marine mammals at SeaWorld—methods rooted in science and entirely free of force.
Over the years, I explored positive reinforcement training more deeply and became convinced that it is one of the most effective and ethical approaches to horse training. This method does not rely on fear or intimidation. Instead, it encourages curiosity, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning, fostering a willing partnership between horse and human.
I am honored to have completed the Shawna Karrasch Equine Certified Professional program and am committed to applying these evidence-based, compassionate training principles in my work with horses.
